Via Francigena Kirk Springer, 11 OCT 2024. “State of the Camino Report: We are only 19 km away and will walk into Rome tomorrow if God is willing! It has been the toughest hike we have ever done, even if we did bus forward when it rained. To all the people who secretly whispered concern to Leo about my weight, I truly do appreciate and love you. He won’t tell me who you are but it doesn’t matter, because I know your concerns were valid. Honestly, having to spend seven hours in the hospital right before we left was a good thing. At least I knew my heart was healthy for the challenge. The acsents and descents were not anticipated, especially the steep severity and uncompromising length, and also the sheer number of miles expected each day was overwhelming. But we’ve seen some beautiful sites, met some great friends, devoured pasta like true Italians, and celebrated each day’s conquest with wine…and hopefully humility and grace.Rome tomorrow! And whither then I cannot say, the adventure never stops!” Leo LaRue, 14 OCT 2024. “Last day in Rome. Made our way to the Colosseum, and found a spot for refreshment. This is the Oppio Caffè. This is the actually first table that Kirk and I sat at on our first visit to Rome in 2007. A great memory!” Share this:FacebookX
